Skopje, 28.10.2025 Regarding the appearance of plastic packaging waste in the Vardar River and other larger and smaller watercourses, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning informs that the reasons for this situation are due to the unsatisfactory level of utility services provided by operators, especially in rural areas.
The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the State Environmental Inspectorate continuously point out, through ZELS, the need for constant monitoring of the situation with waste management and increased presence of municipal inspectors in the field.
Currently, the State Environmental Inspectorate is in the process of preparing amendments to the Law on Environmental Inspection, with the aim of establishing a single inspection system.
The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning appeals to local government units, utility companies and citizens for joint responsibility and action towards preserving the cleanliness of rivers and waterways.
