Human Rights and the Environment: A New Incentive for Institutional Accountability and Access to Justice Deputy Minister of Environment, Ane Laškoska, today in Skopje, together with the Deputy Ombudsman, Sonja Trifunovska, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the UNDP, Ana Cherniishova, and the Human Rights Advisor in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Tatiana Temelkoska, gave introductory speeches at the conference "Human Rights and the Environment - Promoting Access to Justice and Institutional Accountability".

The second regular meeting of the Prespa Park Management Committee was held today at the Monitoring Station in Stenje, Resen Municipality, with the participation of the nominated members of the working bodies in accordance with the Agreement for the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Prespa Park, ratified in 2019.

The current Minister of Environment and Physical Planning of the Republic of Macedonia, Ane Lashkoska, is responsible for creating and implementing policies aimed at protecting the environment and promoting physical planning in the interest of citizens.

The Ministry is responsible for the protection of nature and biodiversity, waste and water resource management, air and water quality control, as well as the preparation and implementation of spatial and urban plans, with the aim of sustainable development and improving the quality of life.

Through the implementation of development and environmental projects, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning contributes to the modernization of infrastructure, strengthening institutional capacities and the application of modern environmental practices, in accordance with national priorities.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION The Ministry is responsible for creating and implementing environmental protection policies, with the aim of preserving natural resources and improving the quality of life of citizens. IMPROVING AIR, WATER AND SOIL QUALITY It is responsible for monitoring, controlling and implementing measures to improve air quality, protect water and soil, as well as prevent pollution. NATURE AND BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION The Ministry works on the preservation of biological diversity, management of protected areas, national parks and natural values of particular importance. SPATIAL AND URBAN PLANNING It is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and documents for spatial and urban planning, with the aim of sustainable and balanced spatial development in the Republic of Macedonia.

The appearance of plastic packaging waste in the Vardar River

Skopje, 28.10.2025 Regarding the appearance of plastic packaging waste in the Vardar River and other larger and smaller watercourses, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning informs that the reasons for this situation are due to the unsatisfactory level of utility services provided by operators, especially in rural areas.

MoEPP: No lindane leak in Ohis

Skopje, 25.10.2025 The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning informs the public that there is no leakage of lindane in OHIS, and at the same time it is continuously implementing the process of cleaning up lindane in OHIS. The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning is continuously working to solve one of the biggest environmental challenges in the country, the cleaning up of lindane in the former OHIS industrial complex. Additionally, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in the evening, an extraordinary inspection was conducted, during which it was determined that there was absolutely no leakage of lindane or any other safety violations at the OHIS location.

Cleaner air through coordinated action

Skopje, 24.10.2025 Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Ane Laškoska, today held a coordination meeting with the Clean Air Working Group, which discussed the implementation of the Clean Air Action Plan and the preparation of short-term measures for the period November 2025 - March 2026. Activities for enhanced inspection controls, clearing of illegal landfills, raising public awareness and transparent monitoring of air quality were agreed upon at the meeting.

The event is organized by UNDP, in cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), within the project "Enhancing the Role of the Ombudsman in Environmental Justice", funded by the Norwegian Embassy through the UNDP global rule of law programme.
