Вода – е извор на живот и чистота.

Quality of watercourses from a health and environmental perspective

According to the Law on Water, the authorities responsible for health protection are obliged to monitor water intended for human consumption and bathing waters and to take measures for active protection of the population against infectious and other diseases of high social and health relevance. These institutes perform microbiological, parasitological, hygienic, toxicological and biochemical analyses within the scope of their activity.

Hydrological condition of rivers and natural lakes

The hydrological state of rivers and lakes is monitored by the Hydrometeorological Directorate at defined measuring points by monitoring the flow of rivers and the water level of natural lakes. The data from the monitoring of hydrological parameters can be found below:

Physico-chemical research on Lake Ohrid

Data on the water quality of Lake Ohrid is provided by the Hydrobiological Institute of Ohrid, through monitoring of the pelagic at one measuring point with ten depths. Physico-chemical parameters such as temperature, transparency, pH, alkalinity, oxygen, organic matter, nitrogen compounds and total phosphorus are continuously monitored.

Regulations

Water Law
The Water Law is a framework law that establishes an integrated and comprehensive legal framework for the management, use and protection of water resources, modeled after Western European laws. It covers the use of water, the protection and control of pollution, as well as protection against the harmful effects of water, while transposing the key requirements of the relevant EU directives. The aim is to ensure sufficient quantities of quality water, promote and protect aquatic ecosystems, and regulate the rights and obligations for the use and pollution of water.
Water Management Program for 2019
Based on Article 218 paragraph (1) of the Law on Waters (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 87/08, 6/09, 161/09, 83/10, 51/11, 44/12, 23/13, 163/13, 180/14, 146/15 and 52/16), the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, at the session held on 8.1.2019, adopted the WATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR 2019.
According to the hydrographic situation in the Republic of Macedonia, there are four areas of said basins (Vardar, Crn Drim, Strumica and Juzna Morava) and three natural lakes (Lake Ohrid, Lake Prespa and Lake Dojran)

Most of the waters are domicile, formed on the territory through precipitation. The Republic of Macedonia is not rich in surface waters and they mainly depend on the occurrence, duration and intensity of precipitation. As a result of the morphological, hydrogeological and hydro-geographic structure of the relief, surface flows quickly flow into the hydrographic network (rivers, streams and lakes) and the water flows out of the ground. The only exceptions are karst areas, where water remains for a longer time below the surface and feeds the flowing waters of the river network.

Within the framework of the RIMSYS program, 20 river measurement points and the parameters that are monitored have been defined.

Forms

Application form for issuing a discharge permit
This form is used to submit an application for a permit to discharge wastewater or other substances into surface or groundwater. It ensures the control and protection of waters from pollution, in accordance with legal regulations.
Application form for issuing a water use permit
This form serves to exercise the right to use water resources for various purposes, such as water supply, irrigation or industrial use. The issuance of the permit ensures rational and sustainable use of water.
