Lashkoska – Esen (UNEP): Strengthening the Partnership for a Green Transition, a Sustainable Future, and a Competitive Economy

Skopje, 12.02.2026 - Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Anne Lashkoska, held a working meeting with Ersin Esen, Project Manager at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for Europe and West Asia.

The meeting was held in the spirit of deepening institutional and international cooperation, with an emphasis on an integrated approach in addressing environmental challenges and harmonization with European and global agendas for sustainable development, including the Green Agenda and the goals of the European Green Deal. The meeting reviewed the successful cooperation between the Ministry and UNEP to date, and reviewed progress in the implementation of ongoing joint projects, including projects financed through the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which contribute to improving natural resource management, strengthening institutional capacities and supporting green investments in the country.

"The partnership with UNEP is an important segment of our strategy for the modernization of environmental policies and full compliance with European legislation. Through joint initiatives, we create systemic and long-term solutions that strengthen the resilience of institutions and bring concrete benefits to citizens," Deputy Minister Laškoska emphasized.
The green transition is not a choice, but a strategic direction for a sustainable future and a competitive economy. The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning sees cooperation with UNEP as a strategic mechanism for positioning the state as an active and responsible partner in fulfilling the global goals for sustainable development and in accelerating the European green transformation.
