Project description

Gostivar, 19.02.2026 The modern regional waste system means an end to improvisations and a permanent solution to the problem that has been plaguing citizens for decades – was the key message from the address of the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, at the presentation of the new mechanization for the regional center Rusino. The investment worth 1,114,200 euros was realized with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The new mechanization significantly increases the operational capacity of Rusino and introduces modern standards in everyday operations.

This activity is part of a broader investment of 55 million euros that launched the largest infrastructure reform in the waste sector in the country.
The next phase envisages an investment of around 14 million euros for the rehabilitation and expansion of the landfill, which includes the construction of new landfill cells, a leachate and biogas management system and the closure of the existing landfill. This ensures full compliance with European standards and the establishment of a modern regional system, which means an end to illegal landfills and a cleaner environment for the citizens of Polog.
